Every Yes Creates Pressure

Some of the pressure you will feel next week is being created by something you say yes to today.
In this episode of Before the Pressure, Dr. Arnold Sanchez explores how overcommitment quietly erodes leadership capacity. Every meeting, project, favor, deadline, and responsibility carries a future cost in time, attention, energy, or focus.
Strong leaders do not simply learn how to carry more. They learn what not to carry.
In This Episode
-
Why every yes creates a future obligation
-
How overcommitment turns into underperformance
-
Why capacity is a leadership issue, not just a time-management issue
-
How competence can attract too much responsibility
-
Why delegation builds capacity instead of just reducing workload
-
How healthy boundaries protect better decisions and better leadership
Today’s Pressure Prep
1. Audit your next yes.
Before agreeing to something, ask:
What will this commitment cost?
Time? Attention? Energy? Another priority?
Do not just ask whether you can do it. Ask what will move if you do.
2. Remove or return one commitment.
Find one thing that does not truly require you.
Delegate it. Cancel it. Reschedule it. Or return ownership to the person who should carry it.
Reflection
How much of the pressure I am carrying was created by something I never needed to say yes to?
Remember:
Every yes creates pressure somewhere.
And:
Do not normalize overload simply because you have become good at surviving it.
Protect your capacity so you can give your best attention to the things that only you can lead.
